As a rule, the phrase “ears are burning” means a process when more blood passes through the ears than usual, as a result of which they turn red. They can also go unnoticed by the person himself, but clearly visible to others.
Reddened ears are a physiological reaction in which small blood vessels of the skin (capillaries) are involved. They, as a rule, respond to various influences, after which they expand and pass more blood, which changes the skin tone and heats it. To understand the causes of this reaction, it is necessary to arm yourself with knowledge about normal redness and about the provoked disease.
Causes
Hot weather and warm room
Under these conditions, the human body tries to cool itself by any available methods in order to protect internal organs from overheating. Ears in this case are quite effective heat conductor. Especially this way of “cooling oneself” is manifested in young children, as their body functions are still poorly developed. Therefore, doctors say to parents in case of redness of the ears of the child it is necessary to cool it.
With mental stress
With active intellectual work, our body begins to intensively supply the brain with blood, as a result of which the ears and even the whole face can turn red. It is noted: right-handed people often complain about a burning left ear, this is due to the fact that they have a more developed left hemisphere of the brain.
Stressful situations
When a person gets into a stressful situation, which causes violent emotions (fear, shame, anger), adrenaline is thrown into the body. It, in turn, can cause a different reaction, everything will depend on the individual characteristics of physiology.
So, in some people, the vessels narrow and they turn pale before our eyes (for example, this reaction is most characteristic of fear). In others, the capillaries expand (including in the ears). Also, a stressful situation is a catalyst that forces the brain to work more actively, which causes an increased blood flow to the head.
From excessive pressure caps or headphones
After the object that pressed on the ears is removed, a reddening reaction will be observed. This is due to the fact that an increased blood flow passed through them. As a rule, after ten minutes, the skin becomes normal shade.
In case of hormone failure
Almost constant redness of the ears occurs in people who have excess estrogen in their blood. In particular, such symptoms are characteristic of women. Then, due to a malfunction, there are constant fluctuations in the hormones in the blood, which is manifested by a constant reddening of the ears and cheeks.
With strong blood pressure
With excessive pressure, redness can go along with a headache in the back of the head, and redness of the face.
What to do if your ears turn red?
In medical practice, treatment of redness of the ears, which is a natural reaction, is not carried out. Since in order to get rid of this undesirable effect, it will be enough to stop the action of the stimulus (remove the headgear, ventilate the room, take a little rest during mental work).
If such redness interferes with a person (for example, if he must speak in front of a large audience), you can contact a therapist to work to strengthen his emotional state. You can also drink a course of sedatives.
When redness is a manifestation of the disease, then medical treatment is required even if burning ears do not disturb the patient. This is due to the fact that the diseases that cause this symptom can be quite serious and if they are ignored, a fatal outcome is not excluded. Therefore, it is highly recommended to undergo a medical examination and consult with a specialist.
In general, redness of the ears is not a serious problem, because if it is a natural reaction of the body, it passes quickly enough. Many people at the same time respond quite normally to it.
