Water on Earth serves as a source of life, moreover, it is an important component of most living organisms. There are many reasons for the appearance of small bubbles, and in order to determine the true source of foaming, sometimes you need to think carefully.
Natural foaming
If there are no foreign substances in the water that contribute to the formation of bubbles, then their appearance can be provoked only by moving the liquid. For example, foam appears on the surface of the river where uneven areas are located. It can also be observed when pouring water into a glass, when the stream from the tap comes in contact with the edge of the mug.
Such foaming occurs in vivo and is based solely on the mechanical properties of the liquid. When the water is in motion, its surface is not even. Because of this, small waves roll onto each other, and the air between them goes into the liquid, forming bubbles, which immediately rise to the surface and form a foam. It has been found that hard water, which contains a lot of calcium and magnesium, bubbles stronger than soft.
Interesting fact: Sea foam appears due to the presence of organic microorganisms in the water, which react with it and are adsorbed in the form of bubbles.
Other causes of foam
In addition to natural causes, foam may appear in the following cases:
- in the presence of soap and other cleaning agents in water;
- due to the ingress of petroleum products, the bubbles in this case have multi-colored shades;
- if solids are dissolved in liquids that increase surface tension and prevent air from escaping to the surface;
- the liquid foams at a high concentration of carbon dioxide - mineral water is gassed with this substance;
- bubbles appear due to the large amount of hydrogen.
It should be understood that in most cases, foaming liquid should not be drunk, since it most likely contains harmful substances. If tap water forms foam during pouring, the drain may be clogged.
There are many reasons for foaming water. In most cases, it appears due to the movement of fluid in space and in the presence of certain substances in the composition that provoke the appearance of foam.
